Humanity

The humanity that perpetrates mass genocide
Is the same one that cries when a loved one dies.
The humanity that consumes pornography
Shudders to think of its daughter coerced onto the screen.
The humanity that lies to cover for a friend
Is hurt when lies come back to bite, and truth stays hidden.
The humanity that hates so viciously
Turns around and preaches, “treat everyone tolerantly.”
The humanity that is a willing traitor to the faithful
Is a little too quick to promise never another betrayal.
The humanity that arrogantly demands to be heard
Has no problem silencing another’s words.
The humanity that hides and conspires in secret
Claims to be transparent and have no regret.
Humanity is double standards everywhere;
Humanity is hypocrisy of the finest air.
And if you are a member of the human race,
As I am, you must stare these problems square in the face.
Humanity is both the best and more the worst.
Beware of thinking better of your own integrity
Than those who committed the greatest crimes against humanity
Just because you didn’t do it first,
When the real crime against humanity
Is ultimately our own duplicity.
